I think the biggest gain is going to come from the caps... Depending on how many you add and the rating... Thats what I have found on air... too bad I have had too many soldering issues. which turned out to be the iron.... Found a cheapo.. and now I can mod correctly.. sheesh.... ANyway.. put that card under LN2 already will ya...

I have to wait til next weekend for mine...

I've been thinking the same. but if a mod could help my card climb sightly higher, I would do the mod straight ahead.

Thanks for all the help you guys have supported me with!

Just wondering that these caps are placed the right way, I've used my multimeter for reading the spots. But I want to be 100% sure.

don't worry about the legs. I will cover them with my Glue gun. should have gotten some smaller caps, but this will work.

What caps you used. I don't have any 5870 here, so can't check polarity.

Use multimeter in resistance measurement mode. Put black (common) probe on VGA bracket (metal thingy). And put red (ohm measurement) probe from DMM to cap side. One side with have zero resistance - is GND. Another side will have some not big resistance. 0.5 to 10 ohm for GPU's (0.5-2 ohm for monsta gpu's like rv800's) and 10-100ohm for memories. Be aware, that 0.5 is not zero. If you use cheapo DMM and which dont have relative delta mode, short probes before any tests and write down lowest resistance value with shorten probes. This will be your "zero", coz probes, contacts in DMM have their parasitic resistance.

And then put _shortest legs as possible_ of caps to sides of SMT caps, having in mind that negative marked on electrolyte is to zero resistance side (GND) and positive to V+.
Avoid long legs!

when I set my DMM to 2kohm and measure:
- right side gives 001
- left side 012

200ohm
- right side 00.5
- left side 11.9

I shortned the sticks each time.
