Default Dragon F1 Gemini

System as follow:

5930k CPU
Asus Rampage V Extreme USB 3.1
8 x 4GB Kingston Hyper X DDR4 2400 and 2666 running 3000mhz
Evga GTX 980ti Hybrid (89.7 Asic)
Corsair HX1200i
Windows 10 64bit

A coupled years ago a got myself the Dragon F1 Gemini as the two pots I made became an issue mounting it properly. For the past couple of times I've done sub sub-zero clocking I've mostly used DICE even though I did not get the base which is used when using DICE.

Regardless, the pot seems to work pretty well with DICE but I seem to be a little stuck. When reading the temps on the base itself it would be between -65 and -60C but when running XTU with the 5930k at 5.2ghz with 1.45vcore it would just stop and hang after a while. I noticed that the core temps will jump between negative up to between 10 and 20C but the base of the pots temps will not go higher than -60C. Does this mean that the pot is maybe not seated properly on the processor?

5.166Ghz works without a problem with 1.425vcore. I tried 5.2ghz with lower vcore but it seems to go the same route but at least with and error not hanging completely.

Yes, it could be the case. Also grease you used might be not good for subzero. It's important to get good grease which works with subzero well. One of popular examples is GC-Gelid Extreme.

Thanks TiN, it ended up being the mount. Grease worked fin and I was able to get the 5930k up to 5.3ghz under dice and got some nice bench results.

Nice job. Thanks for reporting back the solution
Enjoy your XOC sessions. You are one step away from what pro folks do, using LN2.

I personally think LN2 is easier, no need to breathe acetone/alcohol fumes, no need to smash DICE with hammer

Thanks TiN, I've actually done a few LN2 sessions together with Oj0 and a filled up pot of LN2 cooling down a Phenom II 940, 955, 1090T etc. A little easier than when needing to try keep a certain temp to prevent cold boot.

As VPII said, we've done LN2 sessions together (I'd say more than "a few") with A64 FX-55, Ph2 940, Ph2 955, Ph2 1090T, Ph2 1100T, C2D E8600, C2Q QX9650, could be forgetting some... Yeah VPII, we've definitely done more than a few sessions

In SA, dry ice is a lot easier to get and significantly cheaper as well. No need to smash it either, as we use small pellets

Full LN2 pot FTW though.
