today a dead 5870 arrived
1 i`ve checked the adressing resistor from both 1165MF chips
so same resistance as on 2900xt connected evbot to the card and bot works fine
next i`ve connected an usb to i2c bridge to the 2900xt
because i thought that i can read out something but i just got an massage that CLK is low???
CLK low should mean that its got a connection to GND right?
but i`m not sure if this tool works with SMBUS bought this one on ebay http://www.ebay.at/itm/310260909457?...84.m1423.l2649

also tried this riva tuner plugin for VT1165 controller
but no way it does`nt works on my 2900xt

another try to get it working
got some time to play with the card
i took my DM and measured the evbot connector on my classi board
and measured 3,3v on SDA and SCL
took my card and measured 1V on SDA and SCL after connecting evbot to card 0V on SDA and SCL the whole time
does i need some extra voltage?
maybe an 3,3V LD0 and a pullup resistor(12k) to SDA and SCL?
because smbus low level should be <0,8V and high level > 2,1V

today i tried to convers my idea
with my 5870 zombie (after cutting pcb no evbot support)
so i added 2 12k resistors from 3,3V LD0 to SCL and SDA

so starting up system (zombie)

normal Vout was 1,2V on zombie now i got high power digital 5 phase zombie for memory

after 1 min the 0,68 ohm 17W resistor gaves me little smoke signals

I have the same question. Now this is gpu resistance. I've changed it from 1,5 ohm to 1,1 ohm and nothing happened.

Got pics close-up of you're zombie mod ?
Think you forgot something

Now we need to redo connections which left on cutted side of videocard PCB. These include +3.3V auxiliary power, sense lines, +12V.

VRM chipset itself need +3.3V on it's power pins to operate. Original videocard take +3.3V from PCI-Express slot. We don't have it anymore now.
Need to bring it back.

No, You're wrong. I did all what TIN mentions. Zombie mod works but i can't change voltage on volterra(gpu) using v-mod.

Looks like you forgot to connect feedback from PWM chip to its output. Because originally feedback goes all the way to GPU to have precise tracking, but now all that part is cutted, and feedback is prolly open. Get it back, and you will get it working right.

Also I2C pullup resistors 12K is lil to big to my liking, 4.7K should be ok
