ZOMBIE TITAN GUIDE

So I finally managed to enter elite Titan Zombie club (4th person who modded Titan if I am correct) and I want to share my experience. My card was 100% working before modding, so I had a lot to lose, that's why I tried to do everything very carefully.

This guide and my mod wouldn't exist without EVGA support. Ronaldo (rbuass) also helped me a lot and my mod was based on his experience.

STEP 1

Prepare a good SOLDERING STATION DESK

STEP 2

Prepare your EPOWER

http://www.oclab.pl/art/xa//EXTREMEO...ide/epower.JPG

It's better to connect all POSITIVE (+) soldering pads cause it will be easier to solder it directly to Titant's PCB

STEP 3

Remove chokes from your Titan (6 pieces)

http://www.oclab.pl/art/xa//EXTREMEO...ide/chokes.JPG

STEP 4 - MOST DANGEROUS AND HARD

You need to disable "Alert" connection, PIN 2 of NCP 4206 controller

Typical scheme for ON SEMICONDUCTOR controlers:

And here on PCB

http://www.oclab.pl/art/xa//EXTREMEO...uide/all18.jpg

Trace from Pin 2 has 2 millimetres long and it goes inside PCB. Be sure not to cut other traces. It's the most hard part. I could barely see it through magnifier.

STEP 5

As we are going to use stock VDIMM VRM, we need a VMOD for it

http://www.oclab.pl/art/xa//EXTREMEO...uide/all19.jpg

STEP 6

The same with VPLL MOD

STEP 6

Measure points:

For VDIMM and VGPU:

For VPLL:

STEP 7

THERMAL SHUTDOWN MOD

STEP 8

Soldering Epower

POSITIVE (+)

NEGATIVE (-/GND)

My mod looks like:

Final step - checking if it's ALIVE!

Soon I will do some strong LN2 results and update this guide with adding some extra capacitors for GPU & MEM.

Enjoy and have fun! :)

Nice Guide Mike ....... looking forward to your results!

thanks for posting useful info
pin 2 of NCP does not traces to some of "small PCB" contacts (corner near C190 label)?
if it traces, then may be it is more easy (if possible) to cut it somewhere else?
in the place where ALERT signal goes from "small PCB" to main PCB or by removing some zero-resistance smd bridge resistor (if present).

That's the problem with this trace, it's direct from NCP to GPU :(

Great work like always Michael!

I'm almost sure that STEP 7 can skip, as it's goes to onboard PWM IC. With Zombie that IC does not matter if work or not by thermals :)

Also you are lacking of GND connections and lacking of heatsink on EPOWER ;)

Step 7 - no idea if it works or not, I only asked Ronaldo if he did it, he said yes, so I also did it, it's few seconds of work only.

About lacking GND - I can add 4th AWG10 cable, it will do? What issue there will be if there is too little GND connection? Bigger Vdroop?

For LN2 I will put heatsinks and fan on Epower

I would think you have to get up to 6 to 8 GND cables
before things get really good

You must hear Master TiN... more ground is needed ;)

I mean I removed to the first mod, before Epower.
;) useless, but fast and easy.

Heatsink is needed... and a good fan will also help.

Good job Michal.... Let's give combat to United OC... lol

@ TiN .... we also hashed lots of positive and ground areas.
Used bigger ground area than positive area, but also increased positive.

wow thanks XA.

this looks alot "easier" than i thought at first. i keep remembering that zombie-ATI 2900XT thread haha. Thanks for the tips brew.
