Modification request thread. Need mod? Ask here!
Had little time hangin with dinos22 livestreaming his 980X try with 4L of LN and catch the idea to make dedicated modding thread for extreme overclockers.

Some of us need help with soldering stuff, to know what and where to solder to get :\:\, and sometimes I have enough time to dig some soldering stuff for fellow ocers.

So if you need any help with modding your hardware for subzero benchies - please, use next template to make a request.

Mod request #0000
[ *]Which hardware do you need to mod? CPU/MB/MEMORY/VGA/STORAGE/PSU/Other
[ *]Hardware model label?
[ *]What do you need? (Mod for more voltage/more current/OCP/OVP/OTP etc)
[ *]What VRM controller does your hardware run? (Label of chip or good macro shot for coded labeling)
[ *]Describe you issues, why you need that mod? :) Maybe it's not worth doing?
[ *]What is stock voltage of VRM output / OCP/OVP trip point?
[/ LIST]

Using template will shorten way to understand what you need, and will save time for asking person and save my time to ask details :)

Be sure to have soldering iron, digital multimeter and some resistors (fixed SMDs and VRs) near you. Maybe I will ask for some extra measurements to do prior to doing mod itself.

Reference pic of typical VRM for Intel CPU's. Actually principle is SAME for any other highend VRM on videocards, motherboards and so on.

Note1: Try not to ask mods without photo of VRM, I dont have pile of all possible hardware at my room, so need to see what I need to do. Better photo quality -> faster response -> much respect from me :P

Note2: As storage for high-res photos from you - i'd appreciate if you upload them on my ftp. I hate free image hostings, so would like not to see them.
My ftp available for any overclocker -, login and password are "guest" without " symbol. Use folder KPC_mods there please. Thank you.

Posting EXAMPLE mod request
  • Mod request #0000-SAMPLE
  • Videocard
  • Reference NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTX
  • OCP mod for Vgpu VRM
  • Primarion PX3540 PWM controller
  • Videocard latch up during LN2 benchmarks with OCP (voltage drops to 0V under decent load).
  • Stock volts V, Trip point for OCP occur at 850MHz GPU during 3Dmark03.

And my response here: - Here is schematic of PX3540 VRM.
Blue square RCR networks on each phase near inductor are for current feedback.

So solder extra resistance (SMD 15kOhm 0603 size resistor) on top of four capacitors (one per each phase) to lower feedback current readout for VRM.

Tested by me, GPU will not latch off during 900+MHz LN2 loading now.

Oh man this thread is epic. You are truly awesome tin. Sadly you'll be pissed and lock this thread soon enough when the babies come in here bitching because you didn't get the mod to them "fast enough". :headshake:

I just want to make me a frankenstein card soley for the learning experience. I may have to try that on this 8800GTS I have coming.

hahah nice having you pop in the other day. Man i watched the live stream that i did and the camera quality was nasty bad....WTF lol  looking out for a 720p webcam atm lol

i gotta take some photos of the Asus P5E3 DLX i have to try and get rid of this damn OCP. youngpro told me he has some old CPUs he wants us to have a crack at

if i dont find it on time i will have another sesh with this nasty ass camera this weekend

  • Mod request #0001
  • VGA
  • MSI 9500Gt 1GB -V157
  • I want power for the card, it has no pcie-connector nor the space for it.
  • Aiming for more MHZ under LN2

Placed some pics :)

Add AWG16 wiring to blue zones to PCI-E power plug connector +12V. Black areas should be ground, check and connect to same plug connector to ground pins.

Also add capacitors to unpopulated patterns on PCB, and some ceramic/tantalum capacitors on pins of present caps. Take care about polarity. Can caps have negative terminal marked by strip, tantalum caps have positive terminal marked with strip.

wow thanks bro, is it cool for you that i take the picture, add wires to it and capacitors in the way I understand that it is, and that you verify it?

thank you!

This is how I understand your drawing
those +4V caps, are 6,3V caps ok for them? I don't think i have 4v caps

TiN 11-07-2010 08:49 AM

Yes, except polarity on left bottom cap.

Mod has been applied :D:D
So far so good, going to do some 3dtests now, and then i will report back, perhaps later this evening with pics from the modded card .

I owe you one!:D

I also installed the aircooler from a dead ASUS 5750, ok it's still crap compaired to other coolers, but it's still better then the tiny original cooler.

Did an test run at 700/1700/600 :D (stock 550/1350/500) it passed lol :D
